the scream is not a person nor place not a picture nor object the scream is a feelings a feeling that can be compaed to fear a place where you may dread or a place where you may hate ,the scream is an emotion which others may feel.i think the author is trying to express his feeling and emotions that  he may feel about fear. he comparing it to a human or an animal. i thiks he fears his past because it says see the past see what the figure sees.
